The Red Chord are back, and back to their brutal best with their 4th release and this time they are a four piece after dropping the second guitarist. The grindcore troop have gone through many line up changes in their history but continue to produce genre defining music. Fed to the teeth machine, their fourth album was also self-produced and was release on the 27th of october, this review coming later due to computer malfunctions among other things, and the album is a testament to the bands durability and undeniable talent

‘Fed to the teeth machine’ is a mixture of machine gun blast beats, crisp intense vocals and searing guitar work. The red chord have again delivered undefinable metal riffage, with the pace and technicality of a math-core band and the heaviness of a death metal band with a genre where it can be easy to accuse the songs of sounding the same, or just being one continual blast beat. The red chord have managed to create musical arrangements that sound essentially distinctive while still leaving you feeling like your ear drums have been bleeding for the past 38 minutes

Stand out tracks on the album for me are ‘Mouthful of Precious stones’ , which from the tracks lyrics the album takes its name. the song feature an epic guitar solo from Mike ‘Gunface’ McKenzie. other tracks to listen out for are the opener ‘Demoralizer’ and the Ender ‘Sleeplessness in the compound’ which ends on a dark melodic guitar part reflecting the beginning of the album before the audible assault began, completing the work well

A surprisingly innovative and interesting grindcore album from one  of the great of the genre

Das Moustache Klub

Yes the years first Das Moustache Klub has rolled around and is upon us, for all those who have missed the previous two nights you have definitely missed out. The five piece DJ collective only known as Das Moustache Klub, last year put on two nights to the appreciation of lincoln uni students and clubbers alike. These nights are usually free or have nominal door charges, and are always held in  basements around the city centre, the past events have been held at different locations and these locations are kept tightly guarded until the night of the party.

This the third moustache klub, will once again be free and the guests invited will be allowed to bring with them all the drink they require but the guys always have a few tins for sale somewhere around the venue, for around a quid. 

This time the boys have also invited some special guests to DJ with them and these people are like the venue shrouded in mystery until the event. This time there is a possible 500 people turning out for the night, but who know’s how many will attend.

The guys also run a blog on which the release a taster of the music to come at the next part. The musical styl of the night is very eclectic, mainly focusing on elctro dance tracks.Das decribes the event as being ’A NIGHT ALL ABOUT YOUR MUSIC, COMING FROM THE UNDERGROUND.NOT FOR PROFIT, NOT FOR EGO.JUST FUN, DANCING AND GETTING FUCKED UP.’ The Student dream

Disco – punkers This City are set for their freshman release on US independent ‘Epitath’, titled ‘We Were Like Sharks’. The Six piece are currently in Germany on tour with ‘The Eagles of Death Metal’, but will be coming back to these shores by the end of the month to play a series of dates with ‘The King Blues’

‘We were like sharks’ is the debut offering from ‘This City’, the album is a raucous mixture of jumpy dance-punk tunes that demonstrate similar voal attributes to the genre defying ‘blood Brothers’  and  rhythmicly driven post-hardcore anthems. This City show a similar energy to The Automatic, think ‘Test-Icles’, with less immature lyrics and a much more beefy rhythmic purpose to the tracks on ‘We were like sharks’, the album is held together with heavy doses of pop sense and gang vocals thrown in for good measure. This city demonstrate throughout this album that they possess dance hooks that would get anyone moving paired with an infectious passion.

The stand out tracks on the album would have to be ‘We move’ which is the opening track to the album and was released as the debut single earlier this month, as the name suggests this tune will alomst definately get you to move as well and sets a pace and tone that continues throughout the album, a great choice for the debut single release from This City, really showing straight away what theses guys are all about and a great tune too,

Other stand outs tracks which feature on the album are, ‘Black and Blue’ a tune which has less spikey guitar parts, which lend to this being a more straight forward post- hardcore punk feel to this song but this allows the passion of the track to raise to top of the track. Two more tracks well worth thinking about are ‘with loaded guns’ and ‘kids with fireworks’ which both demonstrate the bands raw energy and expressionism.

 Altogether not a bad effort for thier first label release from the UK siz piece – although the album does start to blend together after the opening few tracks until it peeks again with ‘kids with fireworks’ and the sharpness of the main vocals may put many off making their way to the end of this album, but if you dont no need to panic the best is at the beggining so you wont have missed much, listenable but never a classic

We Are The Ocean to film video for first single release from forthcoming album – ‘Cutting Our Teeth’

We Are The Ocean are about to go downunder to tour OZ, but before they do, they are preparing to release thier debut album, ‘Cutting Our Teeth’, and this weekend they are filming a video for thier upcoming single release from the album,  the song which will be released is called  ’look alive’  so keep an ear out for this very soon.

The shoot is taking place tomorrow saturday the 17th of october, in south london, the band have selected 50 fans to attend the shoot and be part of the video.
